Handsworth Wood has been part of a regeneration area for many years. In spite of that large numbers of people in the area felt unrepresented and excluded from the decisions which affect their everyday lives.
Tired of this sense of helplessness a group of residents decided to take action.
In the late summer of 2000 they launched the HAMSTEAD HALL NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUM (HHNF) to give two thousand householders a voice in the running of their own area.

WHEN DID YOU LAST CHECK THE VALUE OF YOUR GARDEN SHED?
It won't take a few moments but just add up the cost of your garden tools, lawn mowers, strimmers, hoses, pots, specialist plants and then think about what it would cost to replace them if your insurance reveals you have not taken proper preventative measures.
According to latest statistics the past eighteen months are set to see record figures for thefts and damage to gardens throughout the UK. There is an active market for stolen lawn mowers and garden tools.
The number one target for criminals is the garden shed. They are usually far too easy to break into. Most sheds are of wooden construction and any locks offer minimal resistance to anyone wanting to help themselves to the contents.
Putting a few simple security strategies in place will often be enough to deter unwanted visitors to your garden.
* Laying gravel on paths and drives will provide an early warning of unwanted visitors.
* For gates without locks fit a standard British or European padlock and chain.
* Fit hinge locks to all your gates to stop them from being removed.
* Install low level dusk to dawn lighting.
* Ensure hose reels are firmly attached to a wall.
* Trim bushes or trees near to the shed to remove hiding places.
* Fit blinds to shed windows to stop robbers looking in.
* Don't allow locks and hinges to rust. Check regularly.
* Be aware that burglars will steal anything form statues to koi carp!
* Ensure that garden furniture cannot be used as platforms to allow a burglar to gain first floor entry.
* Put away childrens toys, at night
Finally, check your insurance cover for the shed. Sheds are invariably treated as permanent buildings, but bicycles and other valuables may need to be seperately identified and there could be a minimum specification for locks.
